Do i have to use powder?

I love foundation. But my friends always say i have to set it with powder to make sure it doesn't crease or smear. But i very much dislike powder! I don't like the way it feels and it takes away that dewy look. I prefer a little shine. So do i HAVE to wear powder? Will i be fine with only foundation? Please & Thank You.
