How do you get your dog to respond without treats?

I have a 2 year old lab. (he actually just turned 2 yesterday!) anyway, he is going to be in a dog show in two weeks for 4-H. He's really smart and knows all of the commands. The problem is, he usually only responds if you have a treat and you are not aloud to use treats in the show. What are some tips on getting him to do what he needs to do? At 4-h, we said giving lots of praise and our leader said she used to wipe hot dogs all over her hands so the dog would smell it. Is there anything else you can think of?
