Marriage registration can be done in residence of bride ...?

i got married in trichy(tamilnadu). iam a resident of chennai (residing in the same locality for 20 yrs). when i contacted my locality sub registar office in chennai they said i have to go to trichy where my marriage held for registering . but in tamilnadu regsitration website , it is stated that we can register in residence of bride , bridegroom or in marriage solemnization place ... therefore i would like to know whether i can register in my locality sub registar office or have to go to marriage held place...thanks in advance!!
